Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo made it happen again, after a controversial shot following the end of his Juventus side’s encounter against Genoa on Sunday.
Juventus secured an easy 3-1 win over Genoa in the 30th leg of the Serie A, and Ronaldo was unable to score a goal to boost his tally, which stood at 25 in the top scorers ‘ standings.
The Portuguese star appeared in footage, throwing his team shirt after the referee blew the whistle.
The incident sparked widespread controversy and prompted coach Andrea Pirlo to stress in post-match statements that the incident was not an indication of Ronaldo’s unhappiness at the Old Lady.
“He was determined to score,” Pirlo said. He is one of the heroes who always want to leave their mark; but it is only natural that these things happen.”
Press reports in Italy stated that Ronaldo’s behaviour was not motivated by anger or disrespect for his team; he simply responded to a request from a ball collector on the pitch, throwing his shirt at him.
This was confirmed after Ronaldo posted post-match photos on his social media accounts encouraging his team-mates to move forward with positive results.
Ronaldo scored 32 goals and provided 4 assists in 37 games all competitions during this season with Juventus.
Today’s win lifted Juventus to 62 points in third place, one point ahead of Milan, and 12 points ahead of Inter Milan, diminishing the Old Lady’s chances of winning the league title for the tenth time in a row.
